Text Formatting

Text flow is controlled using the Paragraph P tag, the break tag BR and one of the 6 header tags H1 through H6. There is no way to really control how much space is before or after these tags unless you use CSS.

Changing the font using the (FONT FACE="FONTNAME") TAG is the easiest way to do it... This font is Comic Sans MS By putting a (/font) at the end of the line, we go back to the original font. We can also supply alternate font using a , after the first fontname such as (font face="arial, comic sans ms, garamond") We can make things bold with the (b) tag or italics with the (i) tag. We can also use the (STRONG) or the (EM) tags to similar formatting.

You can use the (Basefont) tag to change the size of your base font from 1-7. And use the (Big) tag to make them bigger, or the (Small) tag to make them smaller. Once you end the tag with the /BIG or /SMALL, it reverts back to the basefont. You can also change the text size by using the (/font size="+/-n") where n is the number to increase/decrease (from 1-7) the base font size. The dreaded FISHEYE example looks like this:
F I S H E Y E
It is generally not a good idea to screw around with people's fonts like this. It is much easier to handle using CSS for better control of fonts.

Changing background color is accomplished in the BODY tag with the BGCOLOR="color" tag (which should be placed inside the BODY tags carats). A list of all of the colors that MS IE5.0 supports can be found here. You can also use the RGB values if you are so inclined (plus it is probably better from a multi- browser standpoint). Text color can also be done for the whole page using the TEXT="color" tag in the BODY tag (between the carats). Individual font colors can be changed using the FONT COLOR tag. We can change to BLUE and back with this simple tag. Once again, CSS is a better way to do this as the TEXT and FONT tags are deprecated.

Using the FONT tag, we can change Face, Size and color at the same time using:
FONT FACE="Arial" SIZE="5" COLOR="BLUE"

Subscripts use the SUB tag and superscripts use the SUP tag. (Ex. 3rd or N2)
Strikeouts use the STRIKE tag and Underlines use the U tag.
Monospaced fonts can be used to set your text apart. The tags that can be used are:
CODE - Computer Code, KBD - Keyboard, SAMP - Sample Text, or TT - Typewriter Text.
Note that they all look pretty much alike.

Preformatted text (using the PRE tag is a good way to insert
things where you control the white space exactly. It would be
a good place for simple tables:
           Thing1 Thing2
           ------ ------
Thing 3 4 5
Thing 4 3 2
Thing 5 2 1
or any other type of monospaced text with a lot of white
space...
I have used it before to format the output of computer generated report so that I didn't have to use all of the HTML table tags. It's not as pretty, but is much easier.

Comments are added using the tags around what you want to comment.
